Bill's Blog

Bill Melius, a resident at EHCA's group home on Cumberland Road, sees the ins and outs of the agency. He participates in the residential and MOVE Programs, and he has touched many of the staff members' hearts. With a very rare, inherited disorder, Lesch-Nyhan Disease, Bill has beat the odds and is now in his 30s, when often the boys who are affected by this disease often succomb to its symptoms in the first two decades of life. Bill recently has become involved in a research project by Johns Hopkins and Emory Universities, and he has even traveled to Baltimore to fully participate. A documentary is being made on Bill's life, which will be used for a national Lesch-Nyhan Disease training by EHCA staff. Here, he shares his weekly journey with all of us.
